Social Media

May is our Social Media month, social media technologies take on many different forms including internet forums, weblogs, wikis, podcast, photographs or pictures. Each week during this month I will be concentrating on four well know social media options, I will be blogging in more detail on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and blogging itself! But today I just want to introduce you to the world of social media.

Wikipedia defines social media as “web-based and mobile technologies used to turn communication into interactive dialogue between organizations, communities, and individuals”.

To me it is a way of communicating with people who are interested in what you have to say - opt in marketing.  It is marketing to individuals and organisations that have given you permission to interact with them - permission marketing.

These days our purchase decisions are very much driven by recommendations, even a book you may be interested in, you will check out the reviews prior to purchase, to see what other people are saying about it!

Therefore it makes sense to get people talking and recommending you and your organisation and social media will help you with this strategy.

As my regular readers will know I always like to offer an idea for your leisure time and this week is no different, if you are in London why not check out The Museum of Childhood, I am particularly interested in the Mr Punch exhibition which runs from July onwards.
